I am so excited for the PFYTO teams first give-back project this year. I think most of my excitement comes from the genuine joy I see and hear in the teams voices as we start to prepare for the big day. We are going to feed the homeless tomorrow and have been working tirelessly to make sure we can bring smile to the faces of some of Toronto's most vulnerable people. Tomorrow will be the coldest day of the season so far, but I am feeling confident that the Adrenalin and commitment alone will keep us warm and cozy.
We've been packing care kits for men and women with everything from winter apparel, to hygiene products, non-perishable easy treats and apples, to jewelry and books. It is so inspiring to see the team work as a unit to carry-out this gesture. All the items are new and these kids used their own allowances and gave what they could to make this happen.
We've decided to serve Jamaican Style Hearty Chicken soup and Parmesan and tomatoes sauce Rotini Pasta. The Youth decided on that menu because they said pasta always fills you up and chicken soup makes you better when your not feeling your best. Who could argue with such sound rational. :)
In the words of Mother Theresa "Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you." This is a principle I try to live by. Often in life we don't bother to try, because we feel our impact won't be significant enough or valuable enough, which is crippling. Do what you can, with the gift and talents you have been given. If you can make even one person feel joy, you have done well.
We will be traveling the streets of Toronto, looking for people who are sleeping outside on the streets tonight and hope to give away all 35 care kits. Look out for update on this event in our Community Outreach section.
